Malibu During Trying Times // Photo Excursion

San Diego had been in the middle of a wildfire outbreak so what better to do than take a little ride north to Los Angeles/Malibu to get a taste of the smoke up there. The overnight trip began with a venture up to the Griffith Observatory for sunset. From that vantage point I was able to capture a shot of a wildfire in the nearby San Gabriel Mountains. The smoke generated from that fire blanketed L.A. and made for a spectacular golden sunset with vibrant smoke generated rays coloring the nearby hills.

After the sun had set, we trekked south into DTLA for a little photo session with @willoko_uiw. The drummer at hand posed for the crew and we all had a blast. I tell ya, Covid has really transformed the LA at night I once knew into a ghost town. I can’t wait for this to be over and to see Angelenos out and about. I need headlights and tail lights to capture in long exposure. LOL!

The following day we made our way out into the hills above Malibu. Being a holiday weekend, we opted not to hit the beaches due to the masses that decided to flood them. I have been to Malibu a few times but never to shoot or venture into the root of it. It was amazing and we have all seemed to grab some nice shots.

Anyhow, here are some shots from my trip…enjoy!

ps. The shots of cigarette butts are from one of many areas we pulled over to shoot and found them mixed in with dry brush. Blows my mind that dumb human beings just don’t get it.
